reverted the soups via sub-pipes in yahoo pipes
MattisManzel:
I reverted my attempts to build the soup via sub-pipes in yahoo pipes in all four wikis I tried it in. It caused more load. I should still be able to filter the doubled day-page posts in the soup. To do.
The wiki-net is pretty fast now.
the soup via sub-pipes in yahoo pipes
MattisManzel:
I’m not sure it was a good idea to construct the soup using sub-pipes in yahoo pipes.
I have done that in four wikis:
Maybe I’ll revert it again.
not in the end
MattisManzel:
The good part: I finally solved overloading issues by removing direct video streams via soup.io and direct socialmention.com inclusions from the wikis. I activated the instantly shared local names trough all wiki hives. Writing [[name of the wiki - name of the page]] creates a link from any wiki to any wiki in the one big soup. A few examples:
The bad part: google feedburner, I can’t create new feeds anymore, I can’t edit existing feeds anymore since ~ a week. It seems google ain’t google in the end.
This is pretty bad!
“dummy” RecentChanges in the main wikis
MattisManzel:
I did something weird: I created “dummy” RecentChanges in the main wikis.
A page RecentChanges exists in all wikis sitting in the wiki-hives, RecentChanges for example. But in the main wikis of the wiki-hives the page has different names:
In the main wikis there is a local name recent changes defined. It points to the address showing the recent changes to the main wiki exclusively, for example odd-wiki-hive - recent changes (= http://oddwiki.org/odd?action=rc;local=1). Redirecting to this page from RecentChanges would be silly and doesn’t work.
When recently making the sister site icons at the bottom of pages work I realized that the icons link to pages RecentChanges in the main wikis which didn’t exist. Therefore I made the “dummy” pages and therefore only.
This does not yet feel quite right to me, I’m only testing. Probably the main wikis rather need a page called AllRecentChanges (similar for all wiki hives, no hive name in it) and I also need to change RecentChanges to AllRecentChanges somewhere else (like in the config or so, not sure).
much closer …
When using web-services for what they do best instead of for everything the idea of a wiki-net comes much closer …
The overload of soup.io has been largely reduced on some wikis in the wiki-net, replacing most of its former functionality with yahoo pipes. Sorry soup.io.
With the year’s shift all direct video inclusions into the wikis via soup.io have been removed wiki-net wide and voilĂ : The average server CPU load went down from ~ 700 MB to ~ 100 MB, yeah!
Currently somewhere close to the forefront of development are the:
